Akhira Sano: Far More Decentralized (THIRTYTHREE THIRTYTHREE)
“Here we have the third audio release in 2023 from sound and visual artist Akhira Sano (I admittedly struggle to keep up with his dazzling visual art, though his Instagram provides a handy overview). His brief but rich discography of sound art can be equally daunting though ultimately rewarding.
Over the last two years he has released multiple works revealing different aspects of his sound experimentation. On Far More Decentralized Sano straddles a more ambient and minimally harmonic layered approach compared to the lurching, glitchy rhythms presented on 2022’s Particle Dialogue - Observation and Recording (The Trilogy Tapes, 2022).
…Decentralized feels like like it comes from a similar creative space as Shadow’s Praise (a collaborative work with French photographer David Nissen released by IIKKI April 2023) or Phase Contrast From Recollection (12k released June 2023). The pieces on …Decentralized inhabit their own unique spaces, flowing from static to seemingly improvised slow moving melodies and ephemeral textures.
Is this ambient music? Absolutely, albeit ambient that avoids the lazy trappings and cliches, a compelling listen as vivid and complex as Sano’s visual art.”
