Cadentia Nova Danica: Mc Gub Gub / Ode to Skt John / Pladepip LP (Alga Marghen/Formalibera)

$28.00

John Tchicai’s ensemble, Cadentia Nova Danica, mostly associated with free jazz and adjacent experimental vernaculars on their three Lps, here explore the broader context of international new music!

Mc Gub Gub / Ode to Skt John / Pladepip features collaborations with classical composer Svend Erik Werner, an experiment with taped sound collage, and one composition by Tchicai.

Tchicai formed the group just after returning to his native Denmark from NYC in 1966, an ensemble including trumpeter Hugh Steinmetz and altoist Karsten Vogel. New Danish Cadence remained together until 1971, when Tchicai entered the ashram of Swami Narayanananda for an extended period during which he didn’t publicly perform.

These pieces all move dramatically between improvisation and composition, one of the few recent archival documents weaving together Gregorian [!!], musique concréte and improvisation.
