Personal Best #8: Fanzine for Noise, Music and Entropy
Printed in September 2020:
It has been three years since the last issue, but Lasse Marhaug and editor Vivian Wang have delivered a beautifully designed addition to the Personal Best library.
Previous issues were big sellers in the shop, bringing together interviews, writings and imagery anchored around shared themes and deep dives into the life and work of artists and musicians working in the experimental and avant-garde traditions.
Though Marhaug had previously said that the zine would cease publication, the global pandemic and the radical changes we all experienced in the Spring of 2020 offered a renewed sense of purpose. The long form interviews and imagery collected in Issue #8 explore topics like the inspiration and motivation, studio life, art and commerce, existentialism and locating an aesthetic in the everyday.
The following artists are interviewed at length:
Rachel Shearer (New Zealand: Angelhead; Queen Meanie Puss)
Peter Rehberg (Austria: Editions Mego; PITA; KTL; R/S, Et Al.)
GX Jupitter-Larsen (Los Angeles, CA: The Haters, Et Al.)
Benjamin Nelson (American native, based in Vienna)
Peter Brötzmann (Germany)
Jana Winderen (England: Ash International; Touch)
Otomo Yoshihide (Japan)
Ghédalia Tazartès (France: agit-prop nomad)
Not many copies have made there way stateside, so please grab this while you can.
Nota bene: we are sold out of Issues 1-7.
